Mother’s Day at West End Church

Whatever and whomever arises in your heart on this Mother’s Day, bring it to church on Sunday knowing that you are entirely welcome and that God, Mother of us all, will weave something beautiful from it.

A MESSAGE FROM
Matt Puckett, Program Director

Friends,

Your Program Team has had a wonderful week reading through the ideas you all shared with us in worship this last Sunday. Articulating the intersections of Juneteenth and Pride is not exactly a simple task, but from our vantage point it’s clear that the imaginations of West End Church are harmonizing and taking us to new places. We’ll come back to you soon with programming to help carry us through this exploration, but for now know how grateful we are for the light each of you brings to this table, to this conversation.

This Sunday—as I’m sure you all know and have already prepared for!—is Mother’s Day, a time we set aside to honor and celebrate the work of women who have raised, nurtured and formed God’s children the whole world over. We remember and celebrate our own mothers; we lift up the mothers in our communities, our friends and sisters and peers.

We also know that God’s imagination for families is expansive, and so some of us may approach the day thinking more of mother-ing and those who have taken up its holy work in our own long life journeys. And as a matter of fact, we’ll be baptizing one of West End’s young ones this Sunday as well! It’s one of the greatest joys of a church, and a chance for all of us to participate in the communal work of support and nurturing. Whatever and whomever arises in your heart on this Mother’s Day, bring it to church on Sunday knowing that you are entirely welcome and that God, Mother of us all, will weave something beautiful from it.

There’s plenty on our May calendar to look forward to, from this Saturday’s return of the New York Mandolin Ensemble @ 2pm to Theater Study for All next Thursday and the West End Book Club the day after–and that’s just in the next week! Scroll down for additional announcements and a longer view of the month, and of course we’ll keep you posted as the summer comes together. We’ve got big plans, and I’m looking forward to discovering this season together!

In peace,

Matt
