Children and Families
At West End Church, we believe in helping raise the “best generation yet.”
Sunday School on Sundays @ 10am
Children’s Hour on Wednesdays @ 5:30pm
Youth Breakfast Club one Sunday per month
…fellowship events throughout!
Our teaching staff prepares each lesson with a values-based approach: no matter the program, we try to shape open-minded and confident kids who value justice, kindness, and cooperation.
In our religious education, we craft age-appropriate ways to teach the basics of our Christian faith while also practicing norms like sharing, listening, and taking turns. Our Sunday School community is small but mighty: with a multiage group sharing a classroom, West End kids learn quickly how to take care of those littler than they and how to age into being a group leader.
In our community programs, we approach the same questions from an ecumenical standpoint. Our Children’s Hour class on Wednesdays is always designed to encourage problem solving, from STEAM-fueled design classes to learning to sing in harmony with others. Afterwards, we gather at Fellowship Supper for a healthy and filling family meal–something our parents say is a “midweek lifesaver.” (It helps that kids 10 and under eat free!)
As youth grow older and get busier afterschool schedules, they often can’t commit to frequent church programs…but we gather them once a month for Youth Breakfast Club with our Program Director, Matt Puckett, to hear what’s on their minds and to give them a safe space to question, doubt, and work through the very real pressures they face growing up.
We know New York families are pulled in many directions, and we take that into account! Even if your child can’t join us for weekly programming, we schedule frequent one-off and family-friendly fellowship events. Your family is always welcome! Check out our online calendar for full details.

Our Children’s Learning Instructor, Sarah Sherman Barrera, is also a classically-trained soprano! She brings a joyful blend of love and music into our classrooms.
Sarah also works full time in the office at West End as our Communications Manager, which gives her a birds-eye view on how to pepper our programming with fun family events. Catch her in action leading our Game Nights and Creative Salon during West End Wednesdays!
