Hurricane Sandy Relief - How to Help
WAYS YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Many people are searching for ways to do or donate something that responds to people’s greatest needs as they seek to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Below are some of the high level needs of which we are aware. We are continuing to stay in contact with people in the hardest hit areas so that we can make additional needs known, which we will post here.
Things you can DO
Volunteer to help with the cleanup, distribution, and many other needs. It will take many volunteers to help people recover from the devastation of Sandy. To find a volunteer opportunity, go to www.newyorkcares.org, www.nycservice.org or http://www.nyredcross.org/. These organizations will keep you up to date on relief effort needs.
Volunteer to help with food distribution. Food Bank for New York City is looking for help with their Distribution Warehouses Repacks and Community Kitchen & Pantry Services. You can sign up to volunteer at http://volunteer.foodbanknyc.org/SANDYDISASTERRELIEF.
Volunteer to help, as West End Collegiate Church partners with our sister church, Middle Collegiate Church, to clean up The Rockaways. Vans will leave Middle Collegiate Church at 9:00 a.m. Plan on a full day of service. Please email Alisa Joyce by January 14th at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
Please remember to keep all of those who are rebuilding their lives in your prayers.
Things you can DONATE
Support the Church World Service. Our denomination, the Reformed Church in America, partners with them to respond to the needs in the hardest hit areas. You can donate by going to www.churchworldservice.org.
Donate to The American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is in need of financial donations to sustain their relief work. Please consider making a donation at http://www.nyredcross.org/
DONATE TO WEST END COLLEGIATE CHURCH.
Thanks to your generosity, we have raised over $20,000 to help victims of Sandy! This was part of the Collegiate Church of New York’s goal of giving $200,000 to support a sustained response. We will continue to accept contributions to aid the victims of Sandy. In doing so we are embodying the faith depicted in 1 Peter: "Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received"
(4:10). To contribute, send your donation to West End or place it in the offering plate designating it for "Sandy." You can also donate online - click here.
By joining together we will help people rebuild their lives from the rubble left by Sandy.
