Neighborhood Social Ministry
Service Opportunities at West End Collegiate Church
Since 1981, West End has proudly offered the following two Outreach Programs for our congregation and our neighbors to serve and to be served. Please call Jim Sterner at 212-787-1566 or email him at jsterner@westendchurch.org if you have any questions about these two programs. We offer a lot of flexibility in our volunteer program. No experience is required to participate.
Tuesday Supper Center
The Supper Center provides a home-cooked hot meal to our hungry friends and neighbors every Tuesday from 4:30-5:45, with no questions asked. We open our doors for a voluntary Bible Study every Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 and serve dinner promptly at 4:30. Volunteers who help set up the dining room, serve the meals, and clean up afterward are always welcome.
Saturday Center
We open our doors each Saturday at noon to welcome our family and friends who are mentally and emotionally healing. The program begins with an informal coffee hour, followed by a voluntary Bible Study, a three-course meal, and a screening of a feature film for those who would like to stay until 5:00. Saturday Center was created to be a weekend supplement to weekday outpatient programs, and our members come to us by referral only. Volunteers from the neighborhood, from our congregation, and from other church families serve as hosts, cooks, and servers.
The Gorsuch Fund
A new opportunity for service: Grants are available for service projects undertaken by members of the West End Collegiate Church congregation through The Gorsuch Fund.
